Waternet

Waternet is the only Dutch water company dedicated to the entire water cycle. For the regional public water authority Waterschap Amstel, Gooi en Vecht, the organization treats sewage water and wastewater. It also ensures the safety of dikes. For the City of Amsterdam, Waternet treats and distributes tap water, maintains its sewers and processes sewage water. The organization uses innovative technology for these tasks. The Amsterdam sewer system measures some 4000 kilometers.

Waternet was established in 2006 by the City of Amsterdam and the aforementioned water authority. In 2011 the company took over the municipal department of Inland Waterways Management Amsterdam (BBA). The water authority merged its executive organization with Waternet.
