UPDATE: This is the salinisation overview for 6 September 2024
The Z5 value in the North Sea Canal is currently 3440 mg/l which is about the same as last week.
The discharge Weesp (Q5) is currently 35 m3/s. The discharge Lobith (QLobith) is about 1290 m3/s. The water intake system (WIS) is 35.
Expectations
The 'rijnafvoer' is expected to increase again and some precipitation is expected.
Measures
Because the Z5 value is still near the 3500 mg/l, we will continue with optimised lock passages. Work for the 'selectieve onttrekking' in IJmuiden is also still taking place at this time and, as a result, less water can be discharged during the day.
We will continue to cluster ships and minimise empty-running. We will accept certain delay, approximately two hours, to make the passages as efficient as possible and minimize the intrusion of salt in the North Sea Canal.
The CNB and the RWS-WNN will have a meeting on Monday 9 September regarding the salt intrusion and how to best monitor the situation. We will be sending the view on salinisation every week, with the next update coming on Friday 13 September.
